Manor farm, West Worldham, near Alton, Hampshire.
The
farm and surroundings
Manor farm at West Worldham is a beautiful traditional family farm in Hampshire, situated between Alton and Selborne on the edge of the proposed South Downs National Park. This is a quiet and secluded area of the county, featuring an old-fashioned landscape adorned with woodland, tall hedges, sunken lanes and a network of footpaths which form part of the Hangers Way.
Only an hour’s drive from London, or a 5 minute drive from Alton station (direct from Waterloo), West Worldham is a great base to explore the region. There is lots to do in the area; the beaches at West Wittering are less than an hour away and so is the New Forest. Portsmouth Dockyard is a great day out and so is the Watercress Line. In nearby Chawton you can find the Jane Austen Museum in a charming red-brick Seventeenth Century house. It was Jane’s last home and where she lived from 1809 and 1817.
If you prefer to park the car and walk or bike your way around Hampshire, we have a plethora of fantastic pubs and wonderful walks for all the family.
The farming at Manor farm
Manor farm is a very traditional mixed farm, growing a variety of
crops and grazing cattle and sheep on 650 acres under the Countryside Stewardship Scheme. The meat produced here is sold through our butchers shop in Alton High Street, and is also used in recipes for Anna and the Pieman, our award winning ready meal business. Our progressive farm blends modern techniques with traditional methods and finishes its livestock slowly on natural vegetation.
Diversification of the farm
Anna and the Pieman (formerly Anna’s Kitchen) make ready meals out of our own meat and also make the most delicious hand baked cheese straws, beautiful puddings and tarts. These yummy treats are all for sale in the honesty shop at the farm.
The Manor farm family
The Brock family have farmed at Manor farm for over 100 years.
Father and son, Thomas and Will, farm in partnership, along with their
wives, Elizabeth and Anna. In fact Will (picture next to Anna and daugther
Daisy) is the fourth generation Brock to farm here. We are passionate about our animals and the countryside
and make time to share this with our guests.
We also allocate plenty of camper-time to our own staff, making sure that the children get full access to the animals.
Pets allowed
Pets are welcome, but please keep them under close control near livestock.
The 'mule'
In 2008 we added a new memeber to our farming family; a 'mule'. This ‘mule’ lives in the garage; it has 4 wheels and is 4-wheel drive. It is a buggy with seatbelts that we use for the ‘farm tours’ –
a great hit with the children!
The location of the Feather Down tents
The tents are sited in and around the hedges of the old farm orchard in a delightfully spacious layout. Some face into the orchard towards the lamb paddock, others have magnificent views over Alton and the rolling countryside beyond. The pigs and chickens also live here, whilst Alfie the Llama keeps an interested eye on everybody. Each tent enjoys its own privacy, but is also placed perfectly for groups.
Children can experience true freedom to roam in safely in the paddocks, whilst the adults can enjoy the resulting peace. There are numerous sites for campfires and plenty of places to forage for wood.
