...bed and bath: sleeping and taking a shower

Staying on a Feather Down farm, going back in time, however you don't have to sleep on a wooden block with a straw mattress! The tent is equipped with a spacious double bed in the master bedroom, a bunk bed and a Feather Down canopy bed with the dimensions of a three-quarter bed; this is suitable for 2 children or 1 adult.
The advantage of the canopy bed is that it has 2 doors; one of them is on the master bedroom side, so that parents can take a quick look at their offspring. Or for the teenagers, to quietly sneak outside via the living room door to watch the beautiful star-lit sky, without anyone really noticing (tip: do keep your socks on, because it is cold and the floorboards creak quite badly, so that you won’t wake up anyone when you try to creep to the exit of the tent).

There are comfortable, thick, modern mattresses on the beds, so that you will not wake up in the middle of the night due to being pricked by straw or twigs sticking into you, or sneeze the entire night because of hay fever. The beds have duvets and pillows. You will receive the rental linen packages on arrival, from the farmer.

In the tent there is only cold running water in the Kitchen. Here everyone can brush their teeth and wash their faces. A complete wash is nevertheless a bit of a worry and with a stay of several days, it is sometimes nice to completely wash yourself. There are two possibilities for this:

girl water pump1. At the pump/ tap in the middle of the grounds. Ideal for daily washing and also economical. You can rinse yourself with a load of ice cold water. Few people have such holiday pictures in their album.

2. For those who are more inhibited and lovers of regular shower, every Feather Down farm has a good shower facility with an abundance of hot running water (not entirely in the atmosphere of 1920, but nevertheless wonderful).

Towel packages are available (pre-order when you book online) and can be reserved in advance. The advantage of this is that you do not have to make the return trip with soaking wet towels.

mud feet kidsAnd what else can someone do with water…?

During nice days children only want two things; water and sand. They can use the pump and play with water, using trays, buckets and bowls - you name it. It can also be a children's task, to make sure that the animals in the paddock have sufficient drinking water. Or watering the plants and trees in the grounds; whatever they feel like.

The last place with running water is in the vintage loo in the Feather Down tent.

The toilet in the Feather Down farm tent, looks exactly the same as in former days. Such a toilet then stood in an out-house, not far from the main house, usually in the backyard (in front of the farm, near the road). Now you can use a normal flushing toilet in the Feather Down farm tent. That is also different from in the old days; back then, such vintage toilets needed to be emptied at the back a couple of times each year .... Yuck!

Toilet paper is not part of the standard equipment found in a Feather Down tent. We do not know whether you want single-sheet, double-sheet or flowers on the paper. Toilet paper is for sale in the farm-shop, but for 'late' arrivals it might not be a bad idea to bring a roll from home.
